Meet the Founder
Gia J. Cheeks, M.Ed.
Founder, NABE Education Consulting
Gia is an experienced educator and instructional leader with more than 30 years of service across K–12 and higher education. Her work spans special education, early childhood education, teacher preparation, curriculum development, and school improvement.
She has served as an Adjunct Instructor in the School of Education at SUNY Old Westbury, modeling best practices and coaching aspiring teachers, and spent nearly two decades as a Special Education IEP Specialist, teacher, and mentor — leading standards-aligned curriculum implementation, developing assessments, and strengthening accountability systems to improve outcomes for students with diverse needs.
As a Teacher Trainer and Resource Center Specialist with the NYC Department of Education, she delivered graduate-level instruction, designed assessment tools, and provided technical assistance to schools undergoing Quality Review. Her academic background includes studies in Special Education at the City University of New York and advanced coursework in School Administration at The College of Saint Rose.
Gia founded NABE Education Consulting to empower educators, strengthen instructional practice, and ensure equitable access to high-quality, research-based education for every learner.
